Honor the past, welcome the new

Join us for a moment of pause to celebrate and honor the past year while intentionally welcoming the new year.

The twelve nights, also known as “Rauhnächte” in German or the holy nights, are an old custom in european indigenous and pagan cultures. Regional customs say that the veils are thinner to the invisible or spirit world during the twelve days between the old and new year. Each region has their own unique customs, rituals and ways to celebrate and give meaning to this space between as well as use different names for them (e.g. Glöckelnächte, Innernächte or Unternächtes). All customs share a common purpose: it is a time of reflection, cleansing and preparing for the new year.

The nights from December 25th to January 6th are said to carry a transient energy of what comes to a close and what is yet in the invisible. The days from the 21st till the 24th December, are dedicated to preparing ourselves for the transition.

These twelve days can be used to:

  • Reflect on the past year;

  • Take stock of accomplishments, growth and learning;

  • Give thanks to what has been helpful and supportive;

  • Say goodbye to what has been inhibiting or no longer serves;

  • Listen and connect to self more deeply;

  • Prepare an inner space for opening up to what the coming year has to offer.

Open and Closing Circle

We will gather together online to initiate and close the 12 nights as a community.

December 20th, 2023, 10:30am PST (San Francisco) / 7:30pm CET (Brussels)

January 6th, 2023, 10:30am PST (San Francisco) / 7:30pm CET (Brussels)

During the 12 nights:

Between December 21st and January 6th, we will stay connected through a Signal group, where you will receive daily inspiration with the theme of the day, significance and reflection prompts. Everyone is invited to share reflections, insights and emerging questions in the group chat.

Each day’s theme helps us to focus on a specific aspect of this journey between the years. For example, letting go of the old, becoming silent, or healing relationships. Additionally, each day represents a month (January till December) and so it's also thought of as a way of sensing into the quality for the coming twelve months ahead.

We invite you to connect with your creative self by using journaling, painting, drawing wisdom cards, writing letters to oneself, creating intentional times of silence, smudging etc.

After the 12 nights:

At the beginning of each month starting in February 2024, the group will choose a time to gather for one hour to reflect on the previous month, share any insights or observations, and look forward to the month ahead. These monthly sessions give us the opportunity to stay in connection with one another and with the wisdom that arose during the Twelve Nights, allowing us to navigate the year with a sense of orientation and a way to notice individual and collective patterns.

These sessions are entirely optional.

For whom

We invite people from all parts of the world to create an intentional circle for this time, and while going through our individual transition process we are being held and accompanied by each other.
